Bob
This Stepping Up story comes from Bob, who worships at St Peter’s
My name is Bob, I am very happily married to my wife Hazel and we live on the large Bransholme housing estate in East Hull. We have a lovely home, garden and a dog called Gizmo, I have a wonderful life!
My faith journey started at a very young age, in a small village called Aldbrough. As a family we all attended church, for all services, also singing in the choir, Sunday school, and boy scouts. At the age of 14, I was distracted by the material world and life, and turned away from God. I worked hard for the next 52 years, in factories, construction sites and driving jobs, but I had not been attending church. I always felt like a large part of me was missing, but I never felt alone.
I recently retired and thought wow how fantastic, all the time to do whatever I want, but I became deeply depressed with loss of hope and direction. I was sat quiet one day, and suddenly had memories of my mother and father taking me to church and all that they had taught and given to me. So I decided to go to St Peter’s, Wawne the next Sunday. My wife and a friend came with me for support.
I was welcomed by all, the vicars were so full of love and joy. During the service, I had an amazing feeling of love, joy, happiness, and well -being, I felt my chest was going to burst! Since then I cannot get enough of God and my church.
My vicars Chris and Eileen have helped me to join Mustard Seed. Now I can learn how to grow in my faith, to help others in my community and to spend the rest of my life learning how to listen to God so I can carry out his work. I am now having a brilliant time on Stepping Up!
