Children & Families Ministry
Holy Nativity, Eastfield, Scarborough
Cerrie is a Community Minister at Holy Nativity Church in Eastfield, Scarborough. She completed Stepping Up at Easter 2022 and started to work as a Children’s and Families minister in October 2022.As a local mum Cerrie has felt God calling her to work alongside children and families.
‘Thanks to Mustard Seed, Cerrie is going to be employed two days a week as a Children and Family Minister in Eastfield. Cerrie has always been involved in children and family work but to be given this opportunity for her to have paid work to do the job that she feels God is calling her to do is such an amazing gift.’ Revd Sam Taylor
Cerrie is a local mum and she has a real gift of being that bridge between the church and the community. People know Cerrie as a local lass, they’ve seen her around, she’s a friend to many and has worked on the estate in different contexts. This helps Cerrie connect and people know that she goes to church and it’s safe and it’s a good place.
Cerrie has been working with the children at Kids Club on Sundays at church for sometime, she has been able to bring fresh energy and vision to the group, which has grown in recent months from a handful of children to 17 children of all ages. Being able to provide fun interactive opportunities for children and families to build relationships not just with other families but also with God, is such a blessing.
The Little Lambs toddler group has had a facelift, with new families joining to enjoy time to play, sing and socialise. Prayers and songs provide a link with faith and church, and ongoing relationships with families who come to church for baptisms.
Cerrie has launched a new group called ‘The Chosen’ sharing the bible through The Chosen films with an opportunity to explore faith. She was delighted that nine people came to the first session with more people wanting to join in.
Praying Parents is another new initiative, a safe space for parents and carers who are concerned for their children and families to join with Cerrie to pray and support each other.
Through Stepping Up Cerrie has grown in faith and confidence, and is saying ‘Yes Lord here I am, use me as you will.’ She is excited for the future and open to how God will be at work amongst the community of Eastfield.
