Little Seeds Toddler Group

Kirkleatham Parish, Redcar

Carol completed Stepping Up in April 2023 and was commissioned as a Community Minister in Kirkleatham Parish, based at St Hilda’s Church, Redcar.

Carol felt God was asking her to extend her work with families to develop the support needed in her community. After Covid many young mums in the local community felt very isolated having not had any contact with each other because of the enforced lockdowns.  Carol felt that it was so important for the children, as well as their parents/carers, to be able to play and talk with others in the same boat.  So Little Seeds Community Toddler Group was born.

It started with an initial 15 children which has now grown to 52 children.  Usual attendee numbers each week are between 25 and 35, which shows they are fulfilling a huge need in the community.

Little Seeds provides a warm welcoming space with lots of toys and activities, and a singing music session just before snack time.  They celebrate each child's birthday with a rousing rendition of happy birthday and a cake with a candle, which they love.

It costs £1 per child per session, although payment is not compulsory.  This means the group is completely self-supporting and able to re-invest and replace any resources they need.

They have started introducing Christian teachings into the sessions with books and songs.  Carol says “ we are really looking forward to Christmas where we have many sessions planned to introduce the true meaning of Christmas to them all.”
