Rose from Saint Helen’s in Carlin How shares her story of Stepping Up

My name is Rose Turner, I was brought up going to my local Church of England church in our village and have been a believer all my life, although I haven’t always attended church regularly.

When I moved to the area two years ago, I started attending Saint Helen’s in Carlin How and got involved in church life. One day, Fr Adam spoke to me about Stepping Up, I felt very unsure as I had never done anything like this before and I didn’t think I was a good enough Christian to do this sort of work. However, I said I would think about it and agreed to meet up with Jonny to get a better idea of the course.

After a long and interesting conversation with Jonny and a lot of thought, I decided it was something I would like to be involved with as I thought it may help me to help the church and area around that I had moved into.

I started Stepping Up in April 2022 however, it took me some time to settle in, I didn’t feel that I was as religious as the other people in the group and I again doubted that I was the right person to do this work / course.

Then as we started the second part of term one about listening to ourselves, I learned that everyone has value and can find a role. Since then, I have grown in confidence both on the course and in myself. Each week I learn more about God and myself. I feel more comfortable at our weekly get togethers, and although there are still times of doubt, I enjoy it very much.
